Middle School Orchestra Information and Procedures

DRESS:
All students are expected to wear BLACK PANTS (no leggings)
BLACK TOPS (ladies no strapless or tanks and MEN- button down or polo)
BLACK SHOES- no flip flops or sneakers and only DARK SOCKS
*Students may wear ties or scarves as well.
EXPECTATIONS:
All students are expected to come to orchestra prepared- tuner, pencil, rosin, rock stops, shoulder rests, etc.
All students are responsible to buy a black 3 ring binder to store music.
Pencils must be on each stand, music must be with you for each rehearsal, and instruments must be tuned and in good working condition.
All orchestra students are expected to attend sectionals and must participate in four required concerts each year. Your grade will be affected if you fail to attend. If you miss a concert due to illness or emergency YOU MUST CONTACT MRS. KRIEL AHEAD OF TIME.
Lessons are required. Lessons will be excused only if a student is absent from school or a teacher needs the student to stay in class (tests or failing a class). A written excuse by the teacher holding a student must be placed in the excuse box in Mrs. Kriel’s room the week of a scheduled lesson. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY!
GRADING:
Grades will be given four times a year.
Each grade is divided into the following categories: LESSONS, PLAYING TESTS, QUIZZES AND SCALES, and PERFORMANCE AND PARTICIPATION. Any extra credit will be placed in your participation grade. Credit will be given for attending concerts in the community (must have a program or ticket stub) and for participating in extra musical activities that are offered throughout the school year.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
County Adjudication- Students will attend the Adams/Cumberland Adjudication in the spring. This will be during the school day. All students will use our school’s bussing for transportation.
String Ensemble- String ensemble is an auditioned group that will meet during lessons. The ensemble will be chosen by Mrs. Kriel. This is a group for advanced students seeking opportunities to play in the community.
Six Flags- The band and orchestra will be attending a trip together at the end of the year. Students must attend all concerts and be passing orchestra in order to attend.
